ROLL WITH THE TEXAS WINTER PUNCHES.

In Texas, it’s known that if you want a change in weather, just wait 5 minutes. And boy, are the differences in those changes BIG this coming week. For instance, the next 2 days are scheduled to have a high temperature of around 65 degrees. The following three days and average high of 78 degrees. Then, it’s going to drop the next few days into the 50’s. Gee, talk about “hot and cold”. With this constant temperature fluctuation, there will be a lot of things in your home contracting and expanding from the weather. Following, I have a few tips that will help you in preparing your home for the weather.

Outside water sources. Pay attention to all outside water sources. If you have garden hoses outside, make sure they are detached from the home. Insulate outside faucets. If you have a sprinkler system, turn it off and reference the proper handling instructions in order to make sure the system is drained so that no harm will come to the system.

Sinks. Be sure to keep cabinets directly below sinks open to allow warm air to the pipes. Also, it’s advisable to allow faucets a slow drip to also help in avoiding pipes from freezing. It’s also advisable that if your area is prone to extreme freezes, look into insulating your pipes for extra protection.

Maintain your homes temperature. It’s advisable to maintain your home temperature at 68 F, at least. This will help with your pipes.

Check for drafts. Perform draft tests to determine if there are holes in your walls, windows, and doors.

Ceiling Fans. Make sure your ceiling fans are spinning clockwise. This will push the warm air down.

Get your Heating System Checked. Have a certified HVAC technician inspect your Heating system to ensure it’s in optimal working condition.
